Kitchen Ceiling Repair and then!

The Kitchen ceiling that I looked at was to remove plaster from the lath renail lath and apply new plaster ceiling, So instead it went to remove plaster and lath and add lighting. As you'll see it went further.

Well let's start with the ceiling, Remove plaster from wood lath

The plaster has pulled away from the wood lath, When a ceiling is in this condision is danderous, the section that I took out wieghed in at around 90 lbs.

I removed all the plaster and alsothe shoffits which were rock lath plaster. I found newspapers in the walls and the remodel was done in 1946. I also found one dated 1926.

This section of ceiling in the Breakfast nook of the Kitchen was a bit more work and there was plaster under the wood pine boards,

Here the wood lath has been removed from ceiling joists, also Customer wanted Pantry removed. After removing a section of the wall of the Pantry, I found a riser that at one time was a vent pipe for for the stove.

As you can see the job is going beyond the ceiling repair, So far at this point I am 4 days into the project. Each day I had to clean up so the Kitchen could be used.

Here I added 1 1/2" Foam Board.

I had to add ripped down 2x6's to keep the same plain as the kitchen ceiling.

Now with adding the lights 8 in this section of the Kitchen, and two in the Breakfast nook.

Well all the wood lath and plaster are removed, Will add new outlets and repipe for stove to be move across the Kitchen.

Now that all the walls have been removed I can move on to Electrical work that will be installed.

After removing the base cabinets and sink dishwasher I found plumbing would need to be redone. The drain pipe was plugged after 50 some years. plus the pipe was galvanized alot of rust.
